St John’s Place

Located on the former Granada TV headquarters site in Manchester, St. John’s is a village-inspired community from client Allied London – in association with Manchester City Council. Geraghty Taylor was commissioned to create the brand and interiors design guide for the first two residential areas within St John’s South Village and St John’s Place Tower (also known as ‘Village and Sky’).

Geraghty Taylor was chosen to assist with this project due to their experience and breadth of knowledge of the residential sector in London. The key elements were to maximise storage within each individual apartment – a crucial selling point for seasoned buyers – as well as exploiting light throughout the apartments. "

Brand Before Building
Influenced by the desire to integrate high-quality design with the evolving requirements of urban societies, living at St. John’s will offer something not yet available within the city: considered homes that prioritise the material design as much as the immaterial ‘experience’ of a place – through individual distinctive styles, we acknowledge neighbourhood, amenities and experience as much as bricks and mortar.

By working with the Brand before Building process, we developed a fully-formed culture that tells the story of the project and supports the concept of community; helping multiple stakeholders to engage with and own the St. John’s brand.


People First
Inspired by Manchester’s widely influential creative scene, we approached the project with an emphasis on putting people back at the heart of design. We articulated a series of design rules and brand critical elements that responded to people, such as materials that wear through human activity, leaving traces to tell a story through handcrafted and architectural elements. This provided a clear and robust framework through which all design and operational decisions were filtered.

The St. John’s vision is based around three key pillars: enterprise, culture and living. The South Village at St. John’s embraces a contemporary heritage feel whilst St. John’s Place is inspired by mid-century modern style.
